When will the sublime text 3 be ready?

#15

I had that same issue with mine, took to a local authorized Apple service center and they instantly knew of the problem. Dropped it off right when they opened and picked it up right after lunch the next day. They told me Apple switched to an only Samsung part number due to the LG screens having the retention issue, like the one I just had repaired. The Samsung screen was perfect, but a little heads up, LG screens tend to be very cool where as Samsung tend to be warmer, I prefer a warmer screen.

I’m just as productive on my rMBP as I was on my 13 Air, I find my increased productivity was due to SSD not some magical machine. Sometimes I do wish I bought the 13 Retina as I have zero need for the dedicated graphics, and some apps force dedicated even on just battery.

You can use gfxCardStatus to make the OS always use the integrated GPU.

That’s good to hear. I read about some people having different experiences with Apple either refusing to replace the screen claiming the retention was “not that bad” or Apple replacing the screen with another LG screen only to get the same issue. Hopefully all goes well and they can replace it with no problems. Thanks.

Has any updates being released in the last 3-4 months? I’m sorry to say but no blog post, no twitter, no forum post and no new build points to a dead project. We have seen this with textmate and it seems the same.

An update will come out soon enough and the frothing will temporarily subside while you enjoy the fruits of another 500 hours of Jon’s labor. But again, the aching for fresh text editing meat will resurface and you’ll cry out “I’ve been abandoned with this software that has an unending free trial period and reasonable purchase cost!”

I’ve already purchased ST2 and I do like it a lot, but, the complete lack communication of ANY kind is causing me to think it’s not a great idea to invest a ton of time learning an editor that’s closed source and maintained by 1 person. I don’t even really care about new versions or updates, it mostly works great for me as it is, I just would like to see some sign that the developer hasn’t just cashed in his chips. An editor is a big time investment for a developer.

Even if Sublime never got another update, it’s one of the best tools I’ve ever used… and I’d keep using it.

Well, I took my rMBP to an Apple Specialist. They replaced the screen, and I picked it up the next day. No signs of image retention. Painless experience. Now I have to get back to work…

I’m not expecting Sublime 3 any time soon, or free updates for life.

But the lack of communication is very concerning for me. Even if Jon just let us know he’s going on holiday for a year… that’d be cool

The last blog post was in June last year.

Congratulations!

At first I was upset when I checked the model of my screen and found out it’s LG, but luckily I haven’t experienced any problems yet (~3 months of use). Probably I should do the checkerboard test, but I don’t want to make a fuss without any practical reason.

Do not get me wrong. I think this is the best editor ever, but unfortunately is an one man show. And it’s clear that communication between provider -> customer is an issue.
Have you ever thought what happens if for any circumstance the author stop the software development?

Yup. I’d have an editor that works just fine.

I guess people are a little branded by textmate like editors. Textmate itself suffered from bad support, E suffered from bad support, some others I already forgot about did and now the development of sublime slows down.

BUT in my opinion there is a HUGE difference between these projects and Sublime: While every version of E introduced new bugs and unofficially never got out of beta, Sublime is major. Heck, I licensed Sublime over a year ago and always run the latest nightly build and even with that I did not have ONE single crash or anything like that in a year. Sublime runs just fine and does everything I knew it does when I paid a few bucks for the licence.

So start getting productive and stop yelling

As always - just my 0.02$

i’d like to buy - worth the $59 - but am hesitating because the v3 will cost me more.

What about Sublime Text 5? I refuse to pay anything and commit to a relationship with this editor until I see what features I can expect in 2016.

I also bought a license. because sublime text 2 works perfect for me and my workflows (php, ruby on rails, nodejs, git-glow …).

if we / you not get a license, maybe a there will be no 3th version in future …

So support - like we / i - by buying a license…

That don’t work anymore, the guy behind gfx has given reasons why it’s not possible in 10.8 and that feature was always buggy. So it’s more or less a menu bar icon to see what GPU the OS is using AND a nice list of what apps are forcing the dGPU.

Check out the bottom, iii. why was power source-based switching removed?, (gfx.io/switching.html)

That only applies to power source-based switching, you can still manually switch.

I mean this. Looks like it’s working, and it’s actually working - e.g. performance of StarCraft 2 in Integrated Only mode is much worse than with Dynamic Switching.
