why would Sublime not be able to open a file? what would the possible reasons be?

I have checked out (of a versioning vault) 17 text files, all but one open just fine. I can open the one file with gedit, nedit, geany, but not with Sublime.

The first and only thing that occurred to me was encoding, but that can’t be it as I only have us-ascii and utf-8 files and Sublime can open both, from the other 16 files. What could be different about this one file?

P.S. I attempted to attach a picture to this post of what Sublime looks like but, somehow, I could not do so in this forum…first, it just demanded that I log in (which I had…and typed a message, too); second, it told me the quota had been exceeded (53kB…really?). Anyway, the Sublime workspace just looks empty with a horizontal line
