I have found time to test sublimetext 2 and I've got extensive screen tearing (See attached screenshot for for details)
I also tried to fake wm name but it did not help:
wmname LG3D && sublime_text

I am having this problem too. It doesn't happen in Ubuntu 11.04, but is present on Ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10. All have awesome 3.4. Maybe it also has to do with X versions. I have tried with and without hardware acceleration.
This is present on both SublimeText 2 and 3.
Anything I can do to help debug this?
