File:Search Files command not finding existing text

File:Search Files command not finding existing text

Postby sallan on Wed Sep 18, 2013 3:31 pm

Is the 'File:Search Files' command supposed to behave the same as the menu command 'Find->Find in Files...'? I expected them to be the same, but I'm not getting the same results. When I search using the menu command it, successfully finds the correct text. When I use the 'File:Search Files' command (which I prefer), it's not finding the same text that the menu command is finding.

I'm using the latest beta version of ST3, build 3047.

Thanks

At first I wasn't sure what you were talking about, I rarely use the File:Search Files command.
So I thought I would check for myself.
You're right, the searching doesn't find what you imagine it would, because you are imagining it is searching "within" the files.
What it actually is doing is searching for "files" not "text".

Clearly what is needed is a rename of the command to "File:Find Files"

"Search" gives the impression of looking into the files, not looking for the files. IMO.

That clears it up for me. I'm new to ST - very new - so I'm just leaning the nuances. I agree with you that changing 'Search' to 'Find' would likely have been less confusing to me.
