Running 64 bit linux version of ST2 in Ubuntu 11, any operation which spawns a new window creates a window which is only tall and wide enough to contain the title bar and menu bar. In order to use it, you have to resize the window from the menu (none of the resize handles can be seen). That is true of the Open New Window command and the “Open Recent” command.
