Invisible Characters

Invisible Characters

Postby macosxguru on Fri Jan 13, 2012 3:46 am

I want to see the carriage returns, the spaces, the tabs, etc.
How does one do that?

I searched for invisible characters in the forum and came up with a reference to this question and the thanks for the reply to the question. Unfortunately couldn't for the life of me, could I find the answer. :)

Thanks.

Hmmm this request has been pretty popular recently... At the moment it is not possible to see all invisible characters. You can have it display all the spaces, though. Just add the following to "Preferences > File Settings - User":
Code: Select all
"draw_white_space": "all"

I think for me, coming from BBEdit and TextMate, not seeing invisible characters is deeply disturbing. :)

Thanks for the heads up on spaces.

draw_white_space is good, but i'd also like to see LF/CRLF/CF bytes (currently i just see a blank space at end of line). i just had to fix a git repo that had its CRLF/LF newline wires crossed. TextWrangler and eclipse helped in this case.

while i'm at it, sure would like a checkbox/menu for this sort of thing, and plenty others ;)
