I find it a bit too complex to view two versions of a file at once. First you have to show two panels, then do a clone, and then move the cloned file into the other panel.

I would prefer to select “Clone file”, and then Sublime would show two panels, and open the clone automatic in the other panel.

I can’t see any reason someone would open a cloned file in the same pane as the original file.

Maybe not, but you may already have more than one split / view open. So where should the clone go in that case? I guess if you specifically want thhe clone to always open in a particular place, then it wouldn’t be to hard to create a macro or plugin to handle thet.

With more than one panel open, I think the cloned file should go in the next panel. Then you could drag it from there. There’s no more work dragging from panel 2 than panel 1.
