Windows-1252 is the only supported 8 bit encoding atm (It's not on the Save As menu, but I'll fix that for the next beta). Supporting other 8 bit encodings, including 1251, is on the todo list, but isn't a high priority atm - my view is that encodings other than UTF-8 will become less common over time.

This also means that 1251 files aren't likely to open correctly: any file that uses non ascii characters, and isn't valid UTF-8, is assumed to be Windows-1252.

+1 for windows-1251. Unfortunately, files in this encoding still prevail in Russia.
