the layout panes are great, but they should be more flexible, If you take a look at a Microsoft Office program or Visual Studio you can just pull down the little bar below the scroll arrow and there you have your new pane, it starts from your current position in the page. I use it as needed, not set it up from the beginning and keep it that way, so it’s important that it’s easy to access and easy to get rid of. Should also be more flexible than the preset selections of double / quad / horizontal / vertical etc…
