Alternative Font Rendering / Rasterizing?

#1

Hi guys,

I was looking at how to use Safari’s text rendering on other windows applications and found something interesting. While it isn’t yet possible to use Apple’s CoreImage to render text in non apple programs, we might be able to use some other text rendering libraries.

I was looking around on the net and found these articles: dmedia.dprogramming.com/?n=Tutor … Rendering1

I downloaded their tool for windows and played around with how the text is rendered – imagine a setting that would let you choose the type of font rendering you would like to use. We could change between ClearType and FreeType2 or so.

What do you guys think?

I don’t think that FreeType will render fonts in a way reminiscent of Apple’s technique - last time I looked into it, it was generally considered to have inferior quality output compared to Windows as OS X native font rendering.
