JSON for syntax definitions

Are there any plans to enable users to define new syntax files in json? I'm working on a Powershell syntax file and working with XML is very cumbersome.

A new format for syntax files is something that is vaguely planned, but it won't arrive for a while, and it'll go hand in hand with new semantics too. I agree though that the current XML syntax is cumbersome to say the least.
