That is completely awesome, I love it!

A couple of quick suggestions:
* Check to see if self.ie hasn't been set yet and just return in the onActivated and onModified event handlers, so it won't show errors in the console if the command hasn't been run yet
* You should be able to detect when the users closes the instance of ie (it appears to throw an exception) , and set self.ie to None, so the command is effectively toggled off.

Great stuff, look forward to seeing where it goes.

Can't help much, but a couple of thoughts:

re: document.write() being slow, if it's something that noticeably slows Sublime Text down, it should be reasonable to move the communication with IE to another thread, so even if IE is taking its time to update, the editor isn't hampered.

re: MSIE dialog, http://menumachine.com/kb/146 has some information about it.

Another option is to create a webserver in python (via BaseHTTPServer), and serve up the files from http://localhost... may be a bit too keen though.

Now if only this could be integrated into Sublime and additionally support PHP, Javascript, etc. (loading files via local server or ftp from a webhost).

This is an ancient, ancient thread from back in ST1 days.

Was using COM on windows to pipe html on_modified to a `WebBrowser` object.

I'd probably look into embedding a websocket server (tornado) inside Sublime and communicating via a chrome extension these days.
It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt
