Cursor position when selecting a whole line

Cursor position when selecting a whole line

Postby mischah on Sun Sep 30, 2012 3:03 pm

I wonder whether the cursor position after selecting a whole line is configurable.

The cursor is placed on the beginning of the next line Independent of how I select the line:
  • Keyboard Shortcut cmd+L
  • Triple click somewhere in that line
  • Clicking on the associated line number

I'm not sure if I can get used to that odd (imho) behavior. I dont know that from any other code-editor or software that handles text.
I would expect, that the line is selected and no cursor at all is visible.

Is the cursor position configurable in any way?

Thanks in advance,
Michael

The cursor is probably in the same place in all the editors you've ever used; the difference is that in most editors the cursor itself is hidden when you have a selection. Functionally it should be identical.

Oops. You’re totally right. I just double-checked the behavior in »Coda«, »Textwrangler«, »Textmate« and »Espresso«.
It seems that I was confused by the visibility of the cursor. Shame on me
