A better Solarized

A better Solarized

Postby mybuddymichael on Sun Jun 03, 2012 5:04 am

I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but the Solarized colorscheme that ships with Sublime Text 2 is a bit wonky. The colors are way off and the syntax highlighting is not exactly consistent with Ethan Schoonover's Vim implementation.

I spent the day today creating a ground-up reimplementation of Solarized for Sublime Text 2 that tries to stay true to Ethan's original. You can get it and fork it at https://github.com/mybuddymichael/solarized-sublimetext2.

I've currently only tested it with Ruby and CoffeeScript (since those are the languages that I primarily use), but patches with additions and changes are welcome.

Yeah, the packaged Solarized theme is a bit off. People have are already been working on a theme: https://github.com/deplorableword/textmate-solarized. It's also in the package list so you can add it automatically. It's originally for Textmate, but that's mostly compatible. If you want, please contribute your ideas to this project.

It's nice that folks are working to "restore" this theme.

BTW, does anyone know whatever happened to Ethan Schoonover?

What do you mean "happened" to him? He's still alive, at the very least, and still active enough on Twitter, https://twitter.com/ethanschoonover.

Glad to know it. What made me wonder was that it looks like most of the content has disappeared from his website, except for the info on the Solarized theme. Didn't know if he had just walked away from it or what. I didn't mean to imply anything more.
