sticky search highlight

sticky search highlight

Postby vim on Sun Jun 01, 2008 5:38 am

I was wondering if i could emulate the vi editor feature 'search highlight' in sublime. in vi when you stand on a word/marked phrase, and press the * key, the word/phrase is highlighted all over the opened file, this highlight is sticky till you remove it or choose another word highlight.

i find it very useful. and i use vi all the time. i tried to emulate it using the sublime API, but couldn't find any way to do it. any ideas? moreover it would be awesome if one could do many highlights with different colors for each search pattern (which in vi is possible using a user plugin addition)

Altering the syntax definition on the fly isn't planned, but highlighted search results are, as is the ability for plugins to explicitly highlight regions of text in a similar manner.

Once project support is in, searching in general is going to get a revamp, I'm hopeful that vi style persistent highlighting will make it in then.
