★ Official Bug Report and Issue Tracking

Postby tito on Mon Apr 22, 2013 12:31 pm

Dear sublime lover,

We, the community(sublime users), had the initiative to organize ST bugs, features or issues, into github. Mostly because of the frustration of having the forums as the unique way to report bugs, lacking needed organization. After some agreement we started and have hopes to get most of the Github issues feature for recording and giving useful information about ST issues, for users and eventually ST developers.

The List of Issues: https://github.com/SublimeText/Issues/issues

Don't forget to read the readme, https://github.com/SublimeText/Issues

Kind Regards!

I think most of us, are very frustrated with the lack of a bug tracking software. I have an idea: lets track these bugs ourself ;)

For example, I know many bugs, from a variety of importance levels about the Sidebar, and some others, I want to record these things, in an organized way. Then jon can check and decide which things to fix, or find related problems, if he wish. There is many users, reporting the same things, in this forum all the time, and since there is no moderators, kinda the forums does not help. Let just the community manage the tracking of bugs.

There is probably many interested people willing to help. So, let start it!!

1. DONE Find a good tracking software, suggestions? Please put some tiny pros and con of using your suggestion. (github el elegido, https://github.com/SublimeText/Issues/ )
2. DONE Suggest categories for the bugs. A start done in viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12095#p47557 and bugs type, resolution and severity in viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12095&start=10#p47569
3. DONE Discuss bug submitting guidelines. Done from viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12095&start=20#p47650

FAQ

Q: Is this repository for ST3 issues only ? viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12095&start=20#p47629
R: Yes, but every bug present in ST2, still present in ST3, is welcome. We work in the current dev release of ST.

Q: Is using a free account to manage issues for a commercial product authorized by the TOS of Github (no idea) ?
R: No problem look at viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12095&start=30#p47668

Suggestions, comments, welcome, please speak. RSVP

I use http://bugify.com a lot. But perhaps to keep it simple we have an empty Git repository for issues only?

I think github repo will work better.

But the most important thing is that Jon will take those reports in consideration...

That does not matter, if we use it, we will probably be able to share which things we consider important. Adding test cases, information, moderate bad reports, close fixed things, etc. I guess he will probably take in consideration if we do a good work. :-)

I'm for the simple too, an empty github repo looks the best. The community packages are there, and people will be able to contribute easy.

Let discuss the categories (aka labels)

I propose:

ノ Sidebar - for bugs about the sidebar panels which shows files
ノ Menus - related to menuitems of menubar and contextmenu
ノ API - for all the api bugs
ノ Projects - for all the things related to projects
ノ Tabs/Views and Layouts - for the visual aspects of displaying tabs/views/columns/groups/etc around the editor and windows.
ノ Syntaxes - related to syntax files
ノ Build - realted to build systems, etc
ノ Settings - problems caused by different settings.
ノ Macros -
ノ Keybindings -
ノ Snnipets -
ノ Commands - any problem with the default commands.
ノ Minimap - issues related with the minimap
ノ Statusbar - anything about the status bar
ノ View/Tabs Visual aspects - Anything related to the visual aspects, such rules, indentation highlighting, icons on gutter, icons inside buffers, line editing display, folding, marks, bookmarks, etc
ノ Find and replace - any issue with this feature. Quick find, find and replace, find results, find features regexp, case sensitive, scope, etc
ノ Selections - bug and features for selections.

running out of imagination

Labels are good. Here is a dumb question: how do I set the issue category? Or it's strictly an admin task?

If you are a ccontributor of the https://github.com/SublimeText organization, there is a button called "manage labels" in this page https://github.com/SublimeText/Issues/issues
I can add you, if you wish. BTW, let's try to keep organization in which labels we will use.

I used to be a member of the organisation, but not anymore?
