A general purpose view

#1

I am new to Sublime Text. I’ve been just using it for a couple of days, and understand the very basic design of this editor. I am not totally sure what I am suggesting has already been supported, but I think it would be really cool if ST supports it.

Currently, ST only supports edit view (not totally sure about this), which means the purpose of ST is still an editor. However, I think it’s possible to extend ST to do a greater range of jobs. Here are a couple of examples.

  1. We could support a list view. Then we can easily list data in ST and even edit them. An example of this in emacs:

  2. We could support a shell view. Opening a shell in ST will be definitely cool. Still an example in emacs:

With customized view, we could even possible implement a lot of cool tools in linux terminal, such as htop. I think it is totally possible for ST to do this, and this would great extend ST. If ST is implemented that way, ST will not be a editor, it will be a platform.
