Regardless of what file I have open, closing the window (⌘W mac) takes about 2 seconds to close. Is this normal?

Nope, is not normal. Maybe you can share some configuration/setup with some step by step to reproduce. Please turn off packages/plugins this way we know is about the editor and not caused by something else.
