Avoiding the file->open dialog

#1

Hi,

I’m a long time emacs user, and have been looking for a decent customisable editor with python scripting (instead of terrible elisp) for ages.

I tried the sublime alpha, and absolutely loved it. I could see how I would port most of my keybindings and macros across from Emacs.

However there was one thing I couldn’t work out - do you have a plugin or option for searching for a file (not in the project) without using the file->open dialog?

I work both with projects and with many small scripts and files, spread throughout the filesystem. I hate dialogs - a text-based autocomplete works much better. I kind of expected GoToAnything to have this functionality with its nice fuzzy matching, but it’s limited to files in the current project.

Is there such functionality around? If so, I’d be happy to pay $$$ for this editor.

Cheers.

You might be able to do this with the “Find in files” panel (ctrl+shift+f) and selecting the right “In location” and “In files” values…
