Using Find in Files/Open files?

#1

Hey all,

I’m coming from TextMate and I’m finding it hard to understand how to use find in files/open files. Are there any guides on this or a quick how to? It seems to be vastly different compared to TextMate.

Thanks,
Rob

If you want as close to TM as possible, select the “Use Buffer” button (looks like a caret in a box) in the Find in Files panel, and deselect the “Show Context” button (looks like four parallel lines). At this point the results should be virtually identical to TM’s, with the obvious exception of the disclosure triangle next to each file’s results.
You can search open folders by typing “” into the “In Location” box, and open files by typing “”.

Let me know if I didn’t answer your question.

Much better, thank you.

The only improvement would be some color:

  • The searching text
  • filename/location,
  • line number

I’m guessing this isn’t currently possible?

I think it’d be possible. You’d need to write a .tmLanguage for it, though. Maybe request it over at UserEcho? That’s something I’d like to see too.
